Saturday Faster/Longer Ride

Calling all riders interested in the ABC Saturday Longer, Faster Rides,

Our Saturday rides will resume on June 13th!  Randy and I will be working together this year to plan, communicate and lead the rides.

For our first official Saturday ride we're planning a bit of a "figure 8" - starting at the ACME grocery store plaza in Hudson.  We will ride a 29 mile (1,261 ft) loop out east and return to the plaza.  Those so inclined can then regroup, fuel up, and take a 23 mile (1,076 ft) loop west into the valley.

Please be prepared to start the ride at 9:00AM.  Park in the plaza but near the 5/3rd bank near Rt 303.

Here are the links to the 2 routes:

THERE ARE MANY CHANGES TO OUR APPROACH TO CLUB RIDES DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.  Please read the attached document and be prepared to abide by and support these new rules.  The health and safety of our riders is our primary objective.

A few callouts:
  • We will not be passing out or sharing materials during the ride.  This includes cue sheets.  Please bring to the ride some means of following the route, either your bike computer or a printout of the cue sheet.
  • And we will not be stopping as a group at any time for an organized food stop.  This is another CoViD thing.  To be safe, bring any hydration / nutrition you anticipate needing.  If needed, we can stop at a convenience store or gas station to get additional supplies.
As we officially start the ABC riding season, the "figure 8" approach is a great way to kick-off our Saturday rides!  Hopefully we can all get the amount of riding and training in we want.  And we can chat during the ride about ideas for future rides as we get back into the swing of things.

See you Saturday,

Joe & Randy

And now the pre-pandemic fine print: Helmets are required on all ABC rides.  Please no use of ear buds, or cell phones while riding.  Recommend use of rear view mirrors..  By law (and for your safety) a headlight, rear reflector and tail light is required 30 minutes prior to sunset, and recommended at all times for additional safety.  Please obey all traffic laws.  Safety is everyone’s responsibility.  Rides are for members and first time guests.  See Akronbike.org for more information or to become a member.   Come Ride With Us and Enjoy The Ride.

Addressing Coronavirus - Akron Bicycle Club COVID-19 Group Ride Guidelines:

As COVID-19 restrictions begin to be lifted across the country, ABC is looking forward to getting back to riding. ABC group rides will begin effective June 8, 2020; however, rider health and safety is still our primary objective. The following mitigation guidelines are aligned with USA Cycling recommendations and must be followed for ABC Group Rides, based on the current situation:

  • All riders should check their temperature before arriving at a group ride. If you are not well, or don’t feel well, or have been exposed to COVID-19, do not show up!
  • “Sign In” for group rides will be managed by the ride leader. All riders must report in to ride leader prior to ride and provide required information for the sign in sheet. Only the ride leader will handle the sign in sheet.
  • GPS is the preferred option for ride navigation. If GPS is not available, there will be a map link on the ABC Ride Calendar for riders to print out the ride map/cue sheet at home, prior to the ride. No cue sheets will be handed out at the ride.
  • All riders should carry a mask and hand sanitizer with them in case a need arises to use during the ride, as both are easily transported.
  • Social distancing rules of 6 feet minimum should be followed for both pre and post-ride.
  • Riders should ride side-by-side or keep a minimum distance of 10 - 20 feet between riders. If any rider needs to sneeze, blow their nose, cough, etc. they should drop back, so no one is in your slipstream.
  • All Group rides will start out in groups of 8 riders. If more than 8 riders show up, break into additional groups of 8 riders maximum. A ride leader is required in each group
  • Starting in groups of 8 will allow for flexibility during a ride in case riders fall back or ride ahead. We must hold to a MAXIMUM of 10 Riders in any group at any time
  • Multiple groups should maintain a 5-minute gap between group starts.
  • No food stops prior to, during or after group rides. All riders should carry water and nutrition needed for each ride so sharing is not needed.
  • Each rider should carry any needed tools, equipment and clothing so sharing is not needed.
