2020 Ride Of Silence Kick-Off Video

Ride Of Silence Final Update (5/9/20)

On Wednesday, May 20th, ABC will be participating in the Ride Of Silence intended to honor cycling accident victims and to promote safe cycling.

  • Due to the current coronavirus situation, this year's event will continue to take place on May 20th, HOWEVER the format will be changing from a group ride to a "solo" ride, or ride with same household members, or a “virtual” (trainer) ride
  1. Ride in silence
  2. Remember and honor those who've been hit & killed while riding or seriously injured
  3. Ride slowly (12 MPH Max) and a relatively short distance - this is not a race
  4. Wear a helmet & obey road laws for bicyclists
  • The intent is for everyone to begin their rides on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:00 pm, as originally scheduled. If that time does not work out, rides can be done anytime on 5/20. (5/21 will be the rain date)

In consideration of the change in format this year, ABC is adding TWO components to make this ride more inclusive for all:

  1. In lieu of our group physically getting together pre-ride, a short video with Ride Of Silence information is being provided. Click on the "2020 Ride Of Silence Kick-Off Video" Button at the top of this page to watch prior to your ride.

  2. As a way to document ROS rides for ABC, we will be tabulating data from individual rides and providing it to the National ROS group. We are asking if you could please email the following information to Bob Pike @ after your ride:
    • Your Name
    • # Miles Ridden
    • Description of Ride (location, destination, etc)
    • Tribute/In memory of (if applicable)

Other ideas are to take a selfie photo or 2 and use the hashtag #RideofSilence2020 and location of the event when posting their rides on social media.  Posting to the National ROS Facebook page is especially encouraged:

Thank you for your support of this event. Any questions can be directed to Bob Pike at

"Rides of Silence" to honor accident victims, promote safe cycling

Each year, bicycle riders in the U.S. have been killed or injured while riding on public roadways. The Akron Bicycle Club invites all bicyclists to participate in a slow- paced bike ride in coordination with the  World Wide National Ride of Silence.
The Akron Bicycle Club (ABC) invites all bicyclists to participate in a slow- paced bike ride in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 and in coordination with the World Wide National Ride of Silence (  The Akron event will especially honor two of the club’s cyclists, Matt Billings and Jim Lambert, who were both killed in an automobile/bicycle crash in September of 2015.
As an international event, the Ride of Silence has taken place in various locations across the globe since 2003. The ride is intentionally solemn and slow paced, with cyclists going no faster than 12 mph and participating silently. In keeping with the importance of the occasion, other area cycling groups are also welcome to participate.
